how can a colourful home make you happier?
19 February 2025

Homes that are bursting with colour are blessed with an extra-dimensional element — and there’s just something about it that we love.
Whether it’s a splash of bright orange paint in the kitchen, a vibrant, quirky decorative ornament on the shelf, or a rainbow of cushions lined up on the sofa, colourful home decor brings happiness to any space.
But what’s more interesting is when we take a moment and think about how and why.
Colour psychology and the home
From advertising and clothing to art, it’s well-known that specific colours can radiate different emotions. Behind this is colour psychology working its magic.
Colour psychology is all about how different colour shades can influence your mood and energy. This is a subconscious response, but when fully understood, you may find that you can build a home that not only provides physical comfort but emotional, too!
- Blues and greens: The calming duo. Blues and greens are known for their serene, relaxing effect. Blue is often associated with water and the sky, and green links to nature, both bringing a little bit of the peaceful outdoors indoors.
- Yellows and oranges: The energy-boosting pairing. Yellows and oranges are passionate, cheerful, and happy colours that can stimulate positive emotions, making any home a more welcoming space.
- Pinks and reds: The playful twosome. Red evokes excitement, confidence, and passion, while pink exudes romantic and warm feelings. These bold colours are perfect for adding character to the home.
With a splash of all these colours within the home — whether through paint, wallpaper, or home accessories — the result is an eclectic, personality-filled interior that brings happiness and inspiration at every turn and glance.
Introducing… the dopamine decor trend
Named after dopamine — that ‘feel good’ brain chemical — this home decor trend is all about filling your home with colours, decorations, and accessories that bring you happiness. It’s a chance for you to decorate your home with fun, vibrant colours, bold patterns, and playful designs to give your brain the happy boost it craves.
In recent years, neutral colours and minimalist decor have been all the rage, but this isn’t for everyone. Dopamine decor is the perfect trend for creating a maximalist-style home — no rules, no strict interior design schemes, just the things you love in your own space.
molten wonky’s quirky homeware range
Now that you know all about colour psychology and dopamine decor, we have the perfect range of handmade items to help you add a pop of colour to your home.
Look no further than our handcrafted fused glass accessories for fun, colour, and a welcome bit of wonky charm:
Peacock Fraggley Glass Bowl

Part of our Fraggley fused glass bowl range, we create these fun decorative pieces using layers of clear glass. For this beautiful blue sea green Peacock bowl, we then add a hand-cut peacock green transparent circle before finishing the bowl with a disc of green dichroic glass.
This 13cm decorative glass bowl is perfectly wonky and quirky and would work wonderfully as a ring holder or a bits-and-bobs container. We also have other colours available, including Emerald Green, Lime Green, Orange, Yellow, Pink, and more.
Yellow Jazzy Square Coaster

The Yellow Jazzy Coaster was born out of Katie’s love for stripes and spots around the home — because who doesn’t love a bit of unique character? It’s made from a yellow opaque glass base with sprinkles of glass rods and granules for a playful, layered finish.
Each Jazzy Square Coaster is 10 x 10cm and comes with four grippy rubber dots on the base for ease of use. Also available in Red, Blue, Green, Orange, and Pink.
Jester Fused Glass Bunting

Brighten up any bare wall or window with our joyful Jester Fused Glass Bunting. Featuring five triangular ‘flags’ made from transparent colourful glass, hand-painted dots, and silver jingle bells, it can’t help but make you smile.
With a metre of ribbon on each end, our bunting will be delivered to you ready to hang wherever your heart desires.
Striped Green Soap Dish

Big enough to hold almost any bar of soap, our Striped Green Soap Dish can bring some life to any bathroom or kitchen sink counter.
We make these by hand-cutting stripes of coloured glass and fusing them onto a clear glass base. We then add opal ribbons to frame around the edges of the dish for the final, quirky look. Also available in Rainbow, Blue, Black & Grey, Pink & Purple, or Red, Pink, & Orange.
Turquoise & Pink Mandala

Saving the grandest ‘til last, our Turquoise & Pink Mandala looks fab when hung in a light-filled window. What’s better than sun and fused glass coming together to create a spectacularly colourful light show?
Each mandala is 20cm across and comes with a hanging ribbon so you can show it off in your space as soon as it’s delivered. We also have a Rainbow Mandala for the mega colour-lovers.
